| | Team Rickdiculous's thresher caught during our Tournament May 21, 2011 |

Finally we are experiencing some better weather and our water is slowly warming up. I am hearing reports of yellowtail and white seabass at La Jolla, and the calicos are heating up in our local kelp beds. Soon we will be catching Tuna, Yellowtail, Dorado, and my favorite, Marlin. Call me an optimist but I am looking forward to some good weather and good fishing this year. It seems like the season takes so long to get here then in a blink of an eye its over and we are storing our gear for the next season. You really need to take advantage of the season when you can. After the season is over I have never looked back at the previous year and said "man, I fished too much last year". Hopefully fuel prices and the economy will allow all of us to fish as much as we would like. Maybe that is unrealistic, how about half as much as we would like. |

| Thresher Shark Tournament Results | |
Zero, Nothing, Nada, zilch, nil, emptiness, diddly, goose egg, extinction, naught, nobody, obliteration, oblivion, scratch, shutout, void, wind, zip, zippo, zot, naught, nil, nobody, squat!

That pretty much sums up our thresher tournament. We had 26 boats fish our tournament with only two makos reported and Team Rickdiculous caught the only Thresher. It was caught in 87' of water just off Del Mar. It measured 48" and weighed an estimated 60lbs. We released it to grow and fight another day. Our tournament has a 100 lb minimum so the short thresher didn't count for anything, except it livened up the team for just a bit. The good news is we will roll over the money from this tournament to our light line tournament. Also we still have a carry over from the womens side from our Halibut tournament. The paycheck from the next tournament is going to make a few lucky teams and one lucky lady very happy.

| New Website |
| | Our new web designer | Somehow during the last meeting I recruited a new Web Designer to re-organize our site and add some new information. Nathan Whitney has been hard at work this last month and pulled off a spectacular and professional looking website for us. It is not 100 % complete but give it a try and see if you like the changes so far. I'm sure you will like the layout and ease of finding what you are looking for. Once you get on the site take some time and send us some recent photos, we need more current photos of our members and their boats. |
| Next Tournament | | Our Light Line Tournament will be held on June 11th. You must use 10lb test line. The rules state that the line must be 10lb, not just the leader or the Fluro but the line that reels onto your reel while catching the fish must all be 10lb test. Make sure you get your applications in prior to the Friday before by 7pm. |

Upcomming Events
| | San Clement Island |
| Once again I am going to try and put together a club trip. We have tried several times and so far the weather has not co-operated. Every year I make the trip on forth of July over to San Clemente. During July we normally enjoy great fishing and great weather. While we are there we will fish, snorkel, dive, and just hang around and have a great time. I would like to try and get some of our club members over to the island for some fun over the fourth weekend. It would be great to have a raft up of several members boats for swapping of fish stories over a BBQ. This would be just for fun and at no entry cost, just a group of OAC members getting together and catching fish and hanging out. We would anchor mostly in Pyramid but weather permitting we could go to Seal Cove around the backside and maybe spend some time in Fish Hook. If I could get some interest in this I will put it together with who can make the trip and make sure we are all out there at the same time.

| WON WSB Tourney Rescheduled!!
| |
In case you didn't hear of the changes made to the WON Catalina White Seabass Tournament, click on the picture above and it will take you to their website to read about the date change and venue change.
Dana Point the new 2011 site of rescheduled WON/ Catalina White Seabass tourney, but Two Harbors remains a check-in/weigh-in option
Projected wind, high swells at Catalina prompts rescheduling to new dates; added to the event is the option of checking in and weighing at the end of the Two Harbors pier and Dana Harbor Fuel Dock. Also, a kayak division has been added! Freedom to roam! Although the coastal check-in is at Dana, trailerboats and kayaks can drive to favorite launch spots, and boats can weigh-in at the island or Dana;
You can enter by mail with a check, e-mail at wonews.com or with cash at check-in June 4 |

This year our club is doing great, we signed up over twenty new member from our thresher shark tournament, Our meetings are having great participation by our members and guest. I appreciate everyone who is supporting our club, fishing our tournaments, and just promoting the great sport of fishing. After the forth of July I hope to put together a club event close to Oceanside where even the smallest of boats can join in the fun. Maybe a raft up and fishing in the outer harbor, with a friendly fishing contest out of dingys, kayaks, and Stand up paddle boards. Send me an email with your ideas, suggestions and comments.
Sincerely,
Rick Windbigler Oceanside Anglers Club
